No need for a leap of faith where Bluey’s concerned – as we’ve been loving his music with Incognito for many many years, and we’re more than happy to hear the man on his own! The vibe here is every bit as soulful and righteous as the best Incognito work – but there’s also a more personal sound, too – especially since Bluey’s on lead vocals on every track – quite a change from before, as he often lets other singers take the lead!
Born the fifth child of nine in a very musical family, I attended Wichita State University in 1987 and 1988 to study music theory and saxophone. I produce my own unique style of future jazz, acid jazz, groove jazz and downtempo, influenced by the likes of great artists such as Grover Washington Jr., Bob James, David Sanborn, Ronnie Laws, Barry White, Tower of Power.and B B King.I have now turn my focus on composing music. Composing music gives me a outlet to express my feeling and pursue my dream in the music business.
My approach to composing a new song is spontaneous with a wide range of different musical influences. 2 GOOD TO GO represents a rebirth of many different Style and combination of rhythm and a groovie bass feeling with a very energetic earthy funky beat add some saxophone and keyboard and you have a soulful jazz sound.
This is Chester Thomas’ new project at CDBaby.
Transitioning from straight-ahead jazz and inspirational music to showcase her skillset as a contemporary singer-songwriter, classically trained pianist Peggy Duquesnel got to know jazz fusion keyboard pioneer Jeff Lorber and bassist Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets) in order to co-produce Seems Like I Know You, a five-song EP that will be released April 16th by Joyspring Music. Duquesnel wrote or co-wrote four songs for the collection, including the first radio single, “When I Think of You,” a soulfully sophisticated R&B groove that gets tasty horn-powered highlights from Rick Braun’s trumpet and flugelhorn.
Akua Allrich, a native of the District of Columbia, taps into a variety of musical styles as her influences. She has roots in blues, soul, R&B and jazz. Hints of each can be heard in Uniquely Standard, Akua Allrich Live! (2012).
The disc was recorded in two sessions. Eight songs were done at the Bohemian Caverns on February 14, 2012. The other three were recorded at THEARC Theater. Accompany Allrich in both sessions are Kris Funn on bass and Kush Abadey on drums. Janelle Gill handled piano duties at the Bohemian Caverns performance. At THEARC, Warren Wolf plays piano, and Samir Moulay plays guitar. Agyei Osei Akoto contributes congas on one selection in the latter performance.
